There was a word that I had heard
And it was devastating
It left me lost in loneliness,
It left me contemplating
And now each time I come across
This word that I had found
It subdues all the lights around
And switches off all sound
It appears small and sweet
But know, this word is vile
And once this word is said aloud
It’s hard to reconcile
And oh this vile word has pierced
My heart and soul with spears
Has reignited and aroused
All my ancient fears
You just can’t get around it
However hard you try
For this word that I had heard
Was simply a ‘goodbye'.
